Around Africa
On a lazy Sunday lunch, my father, a retired engineer who had never camped in his entire life and on the verge of turning 70, tells me that he has a thousand euros a month to go on a trip.
After 2 bottles of wine, we sealed the biggest of our adventures - to leave the house and to do the complete tour around the African continent overland. The most solid (and cheap) car we remembered on that afternoon was a Renault 4L that I would buy on the internet for 750 euros a month later.
Even today I wonder how this idea could work. Probably the urge to be with a father who always kept his distance and I barely knew.
We have crossed 27 countries and covered 42,000 km over the course of a year. After 6 years of our return my father passed away. Now that he is not here, this adventure, the most epic and unreal I’ve done, has gained all its meaning.
