How far do you go with 1000 euros?

I spent two years in Iceland living in a construction container, with a map nailed to the wall where I projected all my dreams - the epic journey from Lisbon to Japan overland that I would make at the end of that icy adventure.

Back in Portugal, I turned 30 and gave up the idea: after all I wanted to do a travel project. I met Jorge Vassalo and for the next two years we got involved in a joint project that failed and where I spent all the money I've collected in Iceland.

With zero euros in the account, we got a freelance work that would pay us 1000 euros at the end. What if we made those thousand euros our greatest adventure? Fate had taken away all our hopes to give them back in this small personal miracle.

Like this, the project "How far do you go with 1000 euros?" was born. A bike trip from Lisbon to Dakar, with 1000 euros in the pocket. For 4 months I rode a cheap chinese bicycle, loaned by a friend, which I could sell at the end in Dakar before returning to Lisbon hitchhiking.

In the end, we wrote a book, we won the award of the best blog of the year in all categories and we were invited to be adventure guides by the agency Nomad.

This project brought me everything I was hoping at that moment: from being a drifter I became a professional traveler.
